My Story…
Hi everyone!
My name is Lily and I'm proud to run 5 km in the Victoria Goddess Run on International Women’s Day, in support of Victoria Women’s Transition House’s Compassionate Pet Program.
Although I have no direct experience with Victoria Women's Transition House (VWTH), I am empathetic towards the women who get support there. My journey is different but similar. I know the importance of a supportive community with resources that can really help a woman move forward in her life. We need spaces like the VWTH shelter and counselling in our city, free and available for women and children affected by violence and abuse. And the Compassionate Pet Program is such a great resource.
Research shows that there is a strong connection between intimate partner violence and animal abuse. This means many women face an agonizing choice: leave their pets behind or remain in an unsafe home. Tragically, fear for a pet’s safety often prevents victims from leaving, knowing their animals may face neglect, harm, or even death if left with an abuser.
VWTH is committed to removing as many barriers as possible so women can safely leave abusive relationships, and offers a Compassionate Pet Program to help provide pet funds for their clients for essential pet supplies, food, care, and boarding when needed.
Thank you for helping me to empower women and protect pets through the VWTH Compassionate Pet Program. I really appreciate your donation!
PS That's my best pal, my little dog Dandelion, in the photo. :)
